Straight Landing Tread

Landing Tread, also called shoe plate, is the horizontal base piece that sits on the floor or stair landing into which the balusters and posts are attached. This is different from a Shoe Rail which is a similar component that is often plowed to recieve wood balusters.  The difference is that Landing Tread or Shoe Plate overhangs the edge of the floor or both sides of a Curbwall whereas Shoe Rail does not.  While Shoe Plate and Landing Tread are used interchangebly there is a subtile distinction between the two.  Landing Tread has a 3/4" body and a 1" nosing that overlaps the wall on a floor level or a riser on a landing.  Shoe Plate is a uniform 3/4" thick bullnosed board that is installed with an accompanying moulding for additional detail and to conceal the joint between the overhang and the wall or riser below a landing.  Both are often used as the linear continuation of the false tread caps running up the sides of a staircase or as the base component of a floor level run.  Available in all available wood species and any custom dimension, our stock selections are listed below, but don't hesitate to call if you don't see exactly what you're looking for.
